Overview

This is a beautiful morning experience in the woods beneath Falling Foss waterfall, combining cacao, breathwork, nature and an optional cold water dip. We meet at a quiet wooded location between Whitby and Robin Hood’s Bay as the day begins. After gathering, we share a cup of ceremonial cacao to gently energise the body and help us settle into a calm, open state for the morning. From there we walk through the forest down to the waterfall. The path winds through the trees and takes around 25 minutes, so please bring a torch if the mornings are still a little dark when we start. At the base of the waterfall we’ll create a simple space beside the water. Sitting on blankets, we’ll begin with a guided meditation before moving into a breathwork journey, using the sound and power of the falling water as the backdrop. For those who feel called to it, there will then be the option to take a dip in the cold pool beneath the waterfall. Cold water in the morning can be incredibly invigorating — many people leave feeling more awake and alive than they have in years. There is absolutely no pressure to enter the water; simply being beside it is powerful in itself. The walk to and from the waterfall takes about 25 minutes each way, and the whole experience lasts around three hours (8–11am). The route is moderate to challenging. We cross a small river in places, walk over uneven ground, and some rocks can be slippery, so care and steady footing are needed. If you have any mobility concerns, please message me beforehand and I can explain the route in more detail.

Cacao Introduction

We begin by gathering together in the woods and sharing a cup of ceremonial cacao. Cacao is raw, minimally processed chocolate that gently energises the body and helps many people settle into a calm, open, meditative state. We’ll take a short guided meditation to arrive, slow down, and prepare for the experience ahead.

Short trek

We meet at a beautiful wooded location not far from Whitby. There is no phone signal in the valley, but we will send the full location and directions beforehand. From there we walk along a woodland trail for around 15–20 minutes to reach the waterfall. The walk is moderate to challenging in places. If it has been wet, the ground and rocks can be slippery, so please wear sturdy shoes or trainers. We cross a small river in a couple of places and help each other across. If you have wetsuit shoes or swimming shoes, you may wish to bring them.

I’ll share some simple techniques and guide you through a breathing practice designed to build warmth in the body and bring a deep sense of clarity and calm.

Cold Plunge (optional!!!)

If you feel up for it, there will be the opportunity to take a dip in the pool beneath the waterfall. Cold water can feel incredibly energising and alive. We approach it gently and safely, entering gradually and always listening to the body. There is absolutely no pressure to enter the water.

Fire

We keep a good fire going to help us warm up before and after the plunge, creating a simple and welcoming space beside the waterfall.

Breakfast

After the session we walk back to the car park where we gather beneath a wise old oak tree to share a bowl of nourishing porridge together. It’s a chance to warm up, ground ourselves, and chat about the experience if people wish.

FAQs

To break it down, cold water therapy is an immersion process where you allow your body to spend time in cold water that’s is uncomfortable to sit in. This type of therapy activates the body’s natural healing abilities and helps relieve chronic illness — promoting better health and overall well-being. The cold water activates your fight of flight system and releases adrenaline, dopamine and endorphins. This is quote a load on the body but we do everything gently.

There are many benefits to cold water immersion:  Activation of brown fat burns calories and improves insulin sensitivity. Being immersed in cold water stimulates leukocytes — white blood cells that help fight off sicknesses. It also causes the lymphatic system to contract, forcing fluid through the lymph nodes. This process provides detox benefits, as well as added immunity support. By using cold water therapy as a natural remedy, you can give your body a healthy boost.
